Water Management

When it comes to choosing your hot tub or swim spa, water care is an important consideration for any buyer. Fortunately, this element of hot tub ownership can be as easy as you want it to be-as little as only a few minutes a week. While usage, weather, and water quality vary by region and can affect your water care routine, the right levels-of-filtration and water management systems can ensure you get clean, clear water with the level of effort you choose.

JETS & MASSAGE

IMPORTANCE OF MULTI-STAGE FILTRATION

Filtration is the foundation upon which water care rests. Ultimately, water care is made easier when you have a multi-stage filtration process on your side. Jacuzzi® Hot Tub and swim spa models have up to five stages of filtration, ensuring your water is quickly and easily cleared of all debris and ready for the water treatment process.

Jacuzzi® Hot Tub 5-Stage Filtration Process

  • First, the ProClarity™ filtration system uses two stages to catch all the tiny particles and debris that other filters miss
  • Second, the ProClear® filter works to clarify your spa water, even when the jets aren’t running
  • Then, the surface-skimming weir and ProCatch™ bag work together, cleaning the surface and trapping large debris for easy removal
  • Finally, the pleated cartridge filter removes large and small particles, giving you the cleanest water possible

Once your multi-stage filtration system has removed all particles and debris, you’re ready for the water treatment process.

Jacuzzi® Swim Spa Multi-stage Filtration

  • Stages 1 & 2: The surface skimming, weir and ProCatch™ bag work together to clean the surface while trapping large debris for easy removal.

  • Stage 3: Two 60 square foot ProClear Filters help ensure clean, sparkling water quickly by catching tiny debris and particles that other filters miss.

  • Stage 4: The ProStream™ circulation pumps pull the water through a ProClear™ filter that works to clarify water even when the jets are not running.

CHOOSING YOUR WATER CARE SYSTEM

CHOOSING YOUR WATER CARE SYSTEM

In general, you have four main options for hot tub and swim spa water care: UV-C, ozone plus UV-C, ozone, and salt water systems. Each has its own benefits when used in conjunction with your spa’s filters and applicable water care products.

We’ve chosen a hands-free approach to water care, combining ozone and UV-C technology to offer the most powerful clean water system available while giving you the flexibility between chlorine or bromine.

UV-C TECHNOLOGY

UV-C TECHNOLOGY

This modern science uses nature-inspired ultraviolet light to neutralize pathogens in the water. Emitted by a light bulb built into your hot tub or swim spa filtration system, it’s also fast and very easy to maintain.

  • UV-C light can simplify your need for spa chemicals while keeping your water crystal clear
  • Natural UV-C light, emitted by the CLEARRAY® bulb, neutralizes 99.9% of water-borne pathogens
  • It’s used in combination with a small amount of chlorine or bromine sanitizer after each use and during scheduled filtration cycles
  • It requires a CLEARRAY® bulb replacement once a year

CLEARRAY® UV-C technology is odor-free, easy to maintain, and durable.

UV-C PLUS OZONE OXIDIZER

OZONE PLUS UV-C OXIDIZER

Naturally harnessing the power of air and light, ozone plus UV-C systems like the CLEARRAY Active Oxygen™ System unlocks an advanced oxidation process that destroys contaminants and waterborne pathogens. This further automates the water care process and is available as a factory-installed upgrade option on your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub or Swim Spa.

  1. A low-dose of ozone is thoroughly mixed with spa water
  2. Ozone-saturated water is then exposed to a UV-C bulb to energize the molecules
  3. This process unlocks active oxygen through a natural reaction called advanced oxidation
  4. Super-powered active oxygen destroys contaminants and waterborne pathogens to cleanse the water more thoroughly
  5. The clean, clear water is then pumped back into the spa where it continues to work thoroughly to clean the water, breaking down the contaminants so it can be easily be removed through the filters

OZONE OXIDIZER

OZONE OXIDIZER

While combining UV-C technology with just the right amount of ozone is ideal, many newer hot tub models can be equipped with an ozonator kit alone, designed to treat water and help to keep your spa cleaner.

  • The ozonator works to dissolve contaminants hiding in the water
  • Ozone also brings dissolved solids together, making it easier for your filter cartridge to remove it from the water
  • While ozone is a safe option for treating water, unlike the CLEARRAY Active Oxygen™ Clean Water System, large amounts of ozone can speed up the breakdown of equipment such as your hot tub or swim spa cover

SALT WATER TECHNOLOGY

SALT WATER TECHNOLOGY

Salt water systems use chemical reactions to generate chlorine from salt. Salt cell technology has commonly been utilized in large bodies of water such as pools, but more recently has made its way into portable swim spas and hot tubs.

  • These systems use regular pool salt (sodium chloride), which some users feel offers softer water
  • Water needs to be tested weekly and shocked with a granular oxidizer at start-up and at least monthly. Heavy use requires additional shock
  • Sanitizer alternatives, such as bromine, are not available in salt water systems
  • Salt speeds up the process of corrosion on spa equipment and nearby electronics. Hosing off the spa and deck after use can help prevent salt buildup from splashes
  • Salt water chlorine generators can be sensitive and require close attention to detail, from carefully controlling calcium hardness to cleaning filters that prolong the life of the cell
  • It’s easier to over-chlorinate a spa with a salt water chlorine generator because it has a dramatically smaller volume of water than a pool

Salt water systems are a somewhat new trend, but UV-C technology remains an easy and consistent method of water care, especially when paired with an ozonator. As a premium spa manufacturer, Jacuzzi® hot tubs and spas chooses to utilize CLEARRAY Active Oxygen™ technology, giving you the power to choose chlorine or bromine based on your needs. CLEARRAY Active Oxygen™ is our hands-free approach to water care.
