The soothing power of water has been appreciated for thousands of years, from the relaxing heat of geothermal springs to the calming sound of a waterfall or bubbling brook. However, it took an innovative family and a challenging health problem to launch the modern hot tub industry.

HYDROMASSAGE PIONEERS
The Jacuzzi brothers immigrated to California from Italy in the early 1900s and were inventors from the start. Their passion for creation led to their first success: the first enclosed cabin monoplane, which was used by the U.S. postal service. Next came an ingenious water pump that transformed agriculture. Fortune seemed to be smiling on the family. But in the 1940s, debilitating rheumatoid arthritis struck the 15-month-old son of Candido Jacuzzi. Searching for relief for his small son, he redesigned the agricultural pump to work at home in the bathtub. The concept of an at-home spa was novel and extremely popular. A legendary company was born.

WONDERFUL WHIRLPOOLS
That first pump is now known as the Jacuzzi® J-300™ pump, and it was the beginning of a revolution in water therapy. Demand for the pump continued to grow, and in 1956 the Jacuzzi company was officially formed. However, the portable pump was just the beginning. In 1968, Roy Jacuzzi created the first self-contained hydrotherapy tub, and the whirlpool bath business boomed. Incorporating the first-ever built-in jets, “The Roman” personal whirlpool provided an unparalleled experience of relaxation and massage.

A CULTURAL PHENOMENON
The Jacuzzi family had hit on a big idea, and they pushed it even further. With the inclusion of heating and filtration systems and the creation of larger tubs, the Jacuzzi® Hot Tub as we know it today was created. In the 1970s, the first family-sized tub was introduced, and in the ‘80s the hot tub moved outside alongside the pool and patio, becoming a backyard sensation. However, Jacuzzi never forgot its beginnings changing the health of a child.
