5 Hot Tub Games Inspired by the Olympics

Soaking in a hot tub during the winter is not only a fun way to pamper yourself and others, it’s a great opportunity to liven up a chilly winter day or night, too. For your next hot tub party, try these hot tub games inspired by the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea and transform an ordinary soak into a fun-filled soiree.

Curling—Cup Style

Curling is all about gliding a stone into a target area, and this adaptation is easy to try. Float plastic drinking cups on top of the water or use a floating cup holder, then take turns hurling ice cubes into the cups. It’s a simple tossing game that can spice up a regular soak.

Hot Tub Hockey

Turn your hot tub into a game field with this Olympic-themed party game. Just use a ping-pong or floating rubber ducky as the puck, and designate two opposite sides of the tub as goals. Without directly touching the puck—use wave action and air only—try to move the “puck” to the opposing team’s side of the hot tub. When it touches the wall on the other team’s side, you score a point.

Pairs Ice Dancing

Like to watch ice dancers twirl and swizzle on the ice? Do the same in your hot tub by passing a pair of rubber ducks between people without using any hands. Players will have to get creative to pass the rubber ducks around to others, which can make for some fun in the tub.

Water Half-pipe

Dodge the sides of the half-pipe when you toss a few ping-pong balls in the hot tub—jets on—and try not to let them touch anyone. Everyone in the tub will be moving around awkwardly—a perfect way to break the ice!

Luge Love

Grab a waterproof speaker and designate one person as the “Aqua DJ.” Turn the music on and off in varying intervals as people in the spa move round and round quickly, like they’re sailing down an ice path on the luge. Whoever winds up standing when the music stops—and isn’t in a seat—is considered out just like in musical chairs. While you cannot remove seats in the hot tub, you can note which ones are off limits as you whittle down participants.

With a little creativity, it’s easy to turn a typical hot tub party into a memorable event. If all else fails, set up a TV alongside the tub and watch the winter games while you soak in all of the relaxation.
