5 Unusual Wedding Proposals You Can’t Help But Love

According to a 2017 report on Entrepreneur.com, 50 percent of marriage proposals happen on Valentine’s Day. With so many people dropping to one knee, how can you make your proposal memorable? Here are some out-of-the-box proposals that will make great stories for years to come.

Take a Bow

Every bride-to-be likes a little limelight, but when Rich proposed to Jessica, it was a full-blown production. The New Jersey couple met while working in a theater, so Rich thought it would be the perfect setting for his overture. Using prop ring boxes, he sent Jessica on a scavenger hunt around the theater, with clues in each hidden box. The search ended center stage, their fellow thespians surrounded the couple, and a spotlight came up. She said yes–and the proposal has been getting rave reviews ever since.

Roll the Dice

Ron thought proposing was easy as pie–the pie slices in a Trivial Pursuit game, that is. The former graphic designer from Michigan created a Trivial Pursuit card with questions about his relationship with then-girlfriend Deb. He and some friends choreographed the game so Deb would get that unique card, which included the question, “At what time on December 23, 1998, did Rob propose to Deb?” They both turned out to be winners that night.

Exclusive All-Inclusive

While his girlfriend’s family was vacationing in Jamaica, Clay decided to make a surprise visit to propose.  But after traveling all the way from South Carolina, he had to walk a mile in the dark to the all-inclusive resort–with a bottle of wine from France in his hand and Sherry’s ring in his shoe. The front desk clerk (clearly not a romantic) turned him away. Fortunately, Sherry’s parents arrived at the desk and helped their soon-to-be son-in-law. Clay proposed by the resort pool–perfect, since the couple met at the neighborhood swimming pool.

You Deserve a Break Today

Forget dreamy ballrooms, magical firework displays, and beautiful beaches. When Derek proposed to his sweetheart Linda, he did it at the most romantic location around–the McDonald’s parking lot. Of course, he didn’t exactly plan it that way. Derek had arranged an elaborate night in Atlantic City, but Linda was tired from work and didn’t want to drive that far. His plans thwarted, Derek decided the neighborhood Mickey D’s was close enough. Linda opened her car door and found him on one knee in the parking lot. Now married almost 21 years, they still laugh about their drive-thru proposal.

Make a Splash

When California couple DJ and Patricia got engaged, they really took the plunge. DJ jumped off a waterfall with the uninsured ring in his hand. Then he swam up to Patricia and proposed to her right there in the water.

As these stories show, it’s OK to think outside the box–or even get a little wet–when coming up with your proposal. After all, this story will be just the first of many you’ll have to tell over a lifetime of happily ever afters.
