Helpful Info
When you’re figuring out where to put your hot tub, you’ll need to think about the comfort and privacy of the location, as well as how sheltered it is from wind and rain. You may also want to consider investing in additional accessories to improve the hot tub experience, like a parasol, gazebo or veranda for added privacy.
There are three different types of hot tub installation:
- Freestanding hot tubs. This kind of Jacuzzi® sits on top of a concrete pad, patio or deck, so users can climb over the side to get in.
- Semi-recessed hot tubs. With this design, the hot tub is semi-submerged in the surrounding ground or decking, while the cabinet remains visible.
- Built-in hot tubs. This type of hot tub is fully immersed in the surrounding decking, so you can gain access by stepping directly down into it.
With a semi-recessed or fully built-in installation, it’s important to make sure that the design won’t hamper your access to the hot tub cabinet, for maintenance purposes. For hot tub installation inspiration, click here.
Our hot tubs must be installed on stable, level surfaces, capable of bearing the weight of the hot tub when it’s fully occupied. We don’t recommend installing a hot tub on grass, but for the best experience, your Jacuzzi® should sit on top of a concrete surface, paving stones or a high-density plastic hot tub pad.
With the right ventilation, floor surface and space, you can also install your hot tub indoors.

With so many different factors to consider – like the cost of your utilities – it’s impossible to give an accurate estimate on the cost of running a hot tub. Jacuzzi® hot tubs are designed to be as low maintenance as possible, with minimal upkeep required. To keep your hot tub in good condition, we recommend the following checks:
- Daily – a quick water test to keep tabs on the chemical balance.
- Weekly – any further chemical treatments required.
- Monthly – cleaning the interior to prevent build up, so your hot tub is always ready to enjoy at a moment’s notice.
We also surveyed current owners about basic hot tub maintenance, nearly all of them said it was easy! Here’s a quick summary of how to maintain a hot tub:
Water: Check the chemical levels weekly with test strips and adjust them by adding the appropriate products per your owner’s manual—no chemistry expertise necessary. Drain and refills are only needed every 3–4 months, based on use.
Filter: Rinse and clean filters with a garden hose or filter flosser once per month. Replace as needed.
Cover: Use a cover to help keep your water warm and clean. It will protect your hot tub from debris and weather elements.
