If you're in or have been in the market for a new hot tub or spa, you've probably come across both hot tubs and Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs.

Jacuzzi® is sometimes incorrectly used interchangeably with the word hot tub, as is done with vacuum cleaners referred to as Hoover®, plastic containers as Tupperware®, road surfaces as Tarmac™, sticky tape as Sellotape®, and as you may be starting to see, the list goes on!

Sound like a habit you regularly fall into? Many of us do this innocently without realising that behind these names, there’s a brand that produces a specific product.

You will learn in this article what the Jacuzzi® brand is and why not all hot tubs are Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs. This should give you all the clarity you need about our brand and equip you with some handy and correct ‘did-you-know' knowledge that you can pass onto friends and family moving forward!

In this article, we’ve used brand names not affiliated with Jacuzzi Group. You can see the list of the brand owners at the bottom of this article. All information, including pricing and product details, was accurate at the time of writing (June 28, 2023) and may change without notice

What's the difference between a hot tub and a Jacuzzi® Hot Tub?

Hot tubs and Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs are different in terms of the brand name and the way they are made.

A hot tub is a small to medium sized structure that holds a body of water that can be heated and is commonly equipped with seats, jets and filters to create a bubbly, massaging, fun water experience.

On the other hand, Jacuzzi is a brand that manufactures its own hot tubs, swim spas, baths and saunas. The name comes from the surname of the Jacuzzi brothers who invented the J-300 pump for a bath which evolved into the product we now know as a hot tub.

which evolved into the product we now know as a hot tub.

Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs are known for a number of key features including high quality hydromassage jets (inspired from the original J-300 pump), water filtration system, comfortable seating, design and more recent innovations such as SmartTub®.

What is an inflatable hot tub?

An inflatable spa is a portable version that can be easily set up and taken down by inflating or deflating its malleable walls.

It is an affordable alternative to traditional tubs, especially for people who live in apartments, condos or only want a temporary tub to use at certain times of the year. Inflatable tubs are also a good option for people who want to enjoy a soak experience without the hassle of installation.

They come in different sizes, colours, and shapes, and some models come with hydrotherapy jets and LED lighting. Although inflatables are cheaper to buy than hardshell options, they may cost you more to run through more frequent emptying, refilling and heating of water.

The lifespan of inflatable tub is limited to a maximum of a few years, in comparison to up to 20 years or more that quality hardshell options can be used for.

A spa pool is also what other countries around the world call hot tubs. Some countries that call a hot tub a spa, or spa pool, include Australia and New Zealand.
