Find the Most Visible Constellations in Fall From Your Hot Tub

One of the best parts of enjoying outdoor hot tubs is relaxing at the end of a long day, looking up at the night sky and gazing at the stars. As you unwind in the warm water with friends or family, follow these easy guidelines to see if you can find some popular autumn constellations:

Pegasus

The famous winged horse in Greek mythology, Pegasus can be seen from the end of summer through autumn in the northern hemisphere. The constellation is a square of four bright stars known as the Square of Pegasus, with a line of stars representing the head and neck of the horse sticking out to the right. You can use the North Star (the brightest star in the Little Dipper) to find it. Draw an imaginary line from the Big Dipper to the North Star in the Little Dipper. Next, track the same line an equal distance to connect the North Star to the middle star of Cassiopeia, which looks like the number 3 or letter W. Keep going in that direction to star hop to the Square of Pegasus.

Tip: It can be difficult to picture, as it’s actually upside down!

Andromeda

The Square of Pegasus can be used like the Big Dipper to find other treasures in the sky, including one of the most well-known fall constellations: Andromeda, wife of Perseus. When you’ve found the Square of Pegasus, this array of stars is easy to spot, as it’s actually connected to it. From the topmost star in the Square, Andromeda looks like a “V” jutting upward in the sky. This astral array contains a whole galaxy, and is the farthest celestial object you can see with the naked eye.

Perseus

The constellation known as “The Hero” is one of the brightest groups of stars found in the fall and winter in the northern hemisphere. Perseus follows just below Cassiopeia through the night sky. To find him, think of a raised arm and two legs, rotated slightly. He’s probably celebrating his victory over the sea monster sent by Poseidon to kill Andromeda. Perseus won Andromeda’s heart, and the two were immortalized in the stars by the gods.

This fall, enjoy the crisp night air in your outdoor spa as you challenge your family to see who can find the most constellations, or relax with your special someone and impress them with your knowledge of the galaxy. Easy DIY Projects to Complement Your Hot Tub

Create an at-home spa getaway for a restful staycation, without spending a ton of money at a brand-name store. Making a well-designed space that blends function and form is easier than you think. All you need is a hot tub and some vision.

1. Light and Fragrance

Start off with the easy stuff. Add ambience and fragrance to your soaks by placing candles or lanterns around your hot tub. Stringing lights along a pergola or fence can add charm, while also increasing visibility at night. Plants like citronella grass, lemon balm, rosemary, and lavender will act as natural aromatherapy, and will keep mosquitos away.

2. Privacy
Create separation of space with artful touches, like placing simple wooden fence posts around your tub and hang sheer fabric around the structure, creating the feeling of a personal sanctuary.

3. Seating

Get used dining room chairs from a thrift store (perhaps mismatched), saw off the legs, and attach the remainder of the chair (seat and backing) to a tree stump to create unique, outdoorsy seating.

4. Storage

Cover an aluminum tub with wood and a small tablecloth to provide an eating or drinking surface, with more space to keep pillows and towels. That way, you won’t have to abandon your guests to trek back into the house or search through your linen closet. Decorate and use plastic sand pails as receptacles for everything from silverware to wet bathing suits.

5. Steps and Walkways

Get some bright paint colors and decorate the steps leading to your hot tub. This is also a fun project to do with your kids—each child could paint a different area of the steps. Another idea is to use cut, treated lumber rounds or install large rocks to create natural steps for getting in and out. Practical, efficient solar lights and whimsical glow-in-the-dark paint will illuminate your path after the sun sets without adding to your energy bill.

Bachelorette Hot Tub Party Ideas

If you’re a maid of honor or bridesmaid responsible for organizing a bachelorette party for a bride-to-be, you’re under pressure to come up with something creative that everyone will enjoy. What better way to send off one of your besties than with a backyard bachelorette party that incorporates your hot tub? Here are some ideas to get your party planning started:

Theme It Up

Add an air of enchantment to the festivities by decorating your yard like a bright beach scene or luscious luau. Grab some beach balls and a volleyball net for fun before you hit the hot tub, and set up Tiki torches and a thatch umbrella to get the ladies in an island state of mind.

Pamper Yourselves

Prior to her big walk down the aisle, treat the nearly newlywed to her own home-based spa session. Start with a hydromassage in your hot tub, followed by facials and hot tea. Take things to the next level by hiring a mobile day spa to bring professional manis and pedis to your party.

Celebrate Cinematics

Rent a projector and inflatable screen (or hang a drop cloth), and watch the bride-to-be’s favorite films from the warmth of a Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. You can even get the bride’s family and friends to send you videos of her best (or most embarrassing) moments that you can all watch together. Add a gourmet popcorn bar and candy concession stand to bring the big-screen experience to life.

Play Ex-Charades

While relaxing in the hot tub, pass around a fishbowl with slips of laminated paper naming the future wife’s former crushes, hook-ups, and significant others. Take turns acting out the old flames to see if the bachelorette can guess who they are.

Go Gourmet

Hire a personal chef to prepare a delicious at-home dinner for your group, and to teach everyone some new recipes. Chow down on the enticing edibles and digest the meal while unwinding in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub.

Sweeten the Deal

Host a game night with some waterproof playing cards and a large upside-down Frisbee as your “table.” Then deal up your favorite card games from the comfort of your hot tub, awarding winners with beach towels, flip-flops, or gift cards for a local salon.

These are just a few ideas to help you host a backyard bash the bride-to-be will never forget. Curious about what else people are doing to incorporate their hot tub into their lifestyle? Check out these backyard hobbies you can enjoy right from a Jacuzzi® Hot Tub.

Outdoor Hobbies You Can Foster in (and around) Your Hot Tub

While your hot tub can facilitate conversation and aid your health through hydrotherapy, it’s also a great place to foster some new outdoor activities. Here are a few such hobbies that go hand in hand with your hot tub:

Astronomy

Take an after-dark dip in your hot tub and spend some time studying the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies. Pick up the latest issue of Sky & Telescope Magazine for a current naked-eye star chart, and if you like what you see up there, invest in a telescope when the time is right.

Bird Watching

Bird watching

Keep a bird guide and a pair of binoculars within proximity of your hot tub, and get ready to learn all about your local avian species. When you see a winged creature, take note of its size, shape, sounds, coloring, and behavior. Consult the bird guide or a comparable smartphone app (carefully so you don’t drop them in the tub!) and familiarize yourself with the flying fauna.

Meditation

As the water swirls around you, attain inner peace by practicing mindful meditation. Begin by taking five deep breaths and focusing on subtle sensations around you. Quiet your mind and develop a sense of equanimity. Balance.

Reading

Reading

Immerse yourself in warm water and a compelling story when you start reading from your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. Just make sure to keep your book, magazine, or e-reader out of the water. You can even round up a few fellow bookworms and host a hot tub book club, or stream an audiobook through your hot tub’s BLUEWAVE® Stereo System if you’d rather give your eyes a rest.

Yoga

In practice for thousands of years, yoga is a low impact form of exercise that can benefit by nearly anyone of any age. The hot tub’s warm and soothing water will relax your muscles and make you even more limber before your practice begins. Plus, the stress-relieving properties provided by all Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs will quickly put you in the right state of mind.

Best Ideas Showcase: Fantasy Backyards

Your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub may be the most relaxing part of your outdoor experience, but the addition of other elements can transform your entire backyard into an idyllic escape to enjoy all year round. Here are some considerations to help you create an oasis, right in your own backyard.

Waterfall

cw13_Waterfall

Elevate the appeal of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub by ensconcing it in a custom cascading waterfall. Backyard waterfalls add an air of elegance to your yard, and can imbue you with a sense of serenity even before stepping inside the hot tub. The unmistakable sound of the waterfall in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is relaxing, and these aquatic additions can also accompany koi ponds or other wet wonders without too much effort.

Fire Pit

cw13_Firepit

Keep the warmth going even after you step out of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub by fanning the flames of a backyard fire pit. Ideal for alfresco entertainment, a well-placed fire pit can dramatically improve the after-dark ambience of your property. Whether you buy one or build your own, the flickering flames and crackling wood can add a layer of fun to fireside family nights, or flare of romance for couples outside on a cool evening.

Gazebo

cw13_Gazebo

An airy, sunlit gazebo is a perfect place to relax with a glass of wine or water while unwinding with a hot tub soak. Gazebos also allow you to enjoy the vistas of your backyard when entertaining guests for a hot tub happy hour.  And if you’re in the mood for another ambitious outdoor project, create a pergola between your gazebo and hot tub. A pergola is a shaded corridor that consists of upright posts supporting crossbeams and latticework which welcomes vines to grow upon it.

 Tiled Patio

cw13_Mosaic_Tile

Add a personalized touch to your yard by installing a tiled mosaic patio around your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. Mosaic patios can be created using any number of materials, from glass to granite and pavers to pebbles. Or you can use your imagination to come up with something truly unique. Take it one step further by planting flowerbeds on either side, supplemented by easily concealed rope lights to illuminate your patio.

Those are just a few ideas to increase the attractiveness of your backyard. And after you’ve finished accentuating your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub, bring the creativity indoors with these ideas for fantasy bathrooms.

Most Attractive Types of Greenery to Surround Your Hot Tub

If you’re seeking to complement your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub with some creative plant life, here are a few suggestions that can position your spa as a centerpiece, while enhancing the overall aesthetic of your yard:

WEEPING BLUE ATLAS CEDAR (Cedrus atlantica)

This slow-growing, drought-tolerant evergreen reaches heights of about 10 feet, and can be trained to “weep” over fences, walls, or arbors. (This evergreen doesn’t shed its needles in fall, which span the spectrum from silvery blue to dark green, so you can enjoy its color year round.) And the striking contours of the moody conifer ensure that it’s an attractive addition to any size yard.

CAST IRON PLANT (Aspidistra elatior)

Native to Taiwan and Japan, this dark, leafy evergreen earned its nickname based on its ability to withstand extremely unfavorable conditions. Not only is it undaunted by the driest of droughts, but it’s equally unfazed by the sultriest summers and wickedest winters. The Cast Iron Plant can grow up to two-feet tall, even under heavy shade, and it’s perfectly fine when neglected for weeks—or even months—on end. They’ll fill in your dark patio corners with pretty lance-shaped leaves.

TOPIARIES

Topiary

Introduce an element of evergreen elegance to your yard with a meticulously trimmed tree. Whether planted in the ground or in a container, topiaries make outstanding embellishments to any garden, and will look wonderful next to your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. Topiaries come in all shapes and sizes from spirals to pom poms you’re sure to find a shape that fits your garden. Consider Eugenia in warmer environs, Boxwood in cooler climes, and containers of Sky Pencil Holly paired with Japanese Forest Grass as an alternate option for a privacy screen.

ANNUALS

Annual bed

Looking for a pop of seasonal color to add to your hot tub landscape? The options are endless with annuals! Fragrant Freesia offer both color and appealing scent; Ipomoea (sweet potato vine) come in a variety of colors and create a spilling effect in container plantings. And if you’re looking for something different, try ornamental cabbage and kale which provide any planting with both striking color and creative texture.

Throw a Kid-Friendly Backyard Party with Your Hot Tub

Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs are known to turn every gathering up a notch or two, and that holds true even for kids’ parties. Plan an enjoyable, family-friendly party in your backyard by inviting your kids’ friends (and their parents) over for a good time and some relaxation in the hot tub. Here are a few ideas to help you get to know everyone:

Backyard Scavenger Hunt

Before your guests arrive, hide toys, treats, or household items around your yard, ideally within view of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. When the kids arrive, give them either a written list or a picture list (depending upon their age) of the hidden objects, and send them on a quest to find them all. An added bonus: Parents can keep an eye on their young‘uns from the comfort of your hot tub.

Dunking Duck Hunt

Purchase two dozen small rubber ducks and a few nets the size you’d use in a fish tank. Using a marker, write a number between one and 12 on the bottom of each duck, making sure to use each number twice. Toss the ducks in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub and supervise the kids while they take turns using the net to “catch” two ducks. If the ducks they catch both have the same number, the kids gets a point and the ducks stay out of the water. If the numbers are different, no points are awarded and the ducks continue “swimming.” Play continues until all pairs of ducks are “captured” and the winner is whoever has the most ducks at the end.

Football Toss

Using a pair of scissors or shears, cut a variety of different shapes (circles, triangles, stars, etc.) out of a large tarp or old bed sheet. Outline the shapes of the holes using brightly colored duct tape. Then, with a marker, write different point values beneath each hole. (The narrower the hole, the greater the point value.) Hang the tarp between two trees, gazebo posts, or other structures in your backyard, and challenge the kids to toss a football (or other ball) through the holes. Whichever kid racks up the most points in ten throws, wins the game. Bonus: kids can toss the balls from the warmth of your hot tub.

These are just a few simple ideas to get the good times rolling at your next backyard party. And with a Jacuzzi® Hot Tub, the parents can enjoy watching all the games from the comfort of the warm water.

Hot Tub Romance: Best Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Whether you’ve been together for 3 months or 30 years, Valentine’s Day is always a special occasion for a couple, and your hot tub can add to the romance and drama. To help make February 14th memorable, we’ve collected our favorite tips for including your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub in your Valentine’s Day plans:

Create Backyard Ambiance

Wrap strings of lights around your gazebo or nearby trees to create a romantic mood. Play either romantic music or, for extra points, your partner’s favorite musician. Keep large, fluffy towels and slippers nearby so the two of you can quickly warm up after getting out of the hot tub. Consider scattering rose petals around the path to the hot tub, or setting scented candles and a floral arrangement on a table right next to it to tantalize all of the senses.

Let the Jets Do Their Job

Indulge in the warmth of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub as you enjoy dual hydromassages. Or perhaps treat your sweetie to a hand massage while the jets work on each of your backs and feet. Spend anywhere from 15-30 minutes in your hot tub, savoring each other’s company and the warmth of the water.

Enjoy Romantic Treats

Serve your partner delicious finger foods like shelled oysters, chocolate-covered strawberries, and grapes. These bite-sized treats will be easy to consume while relaxing in the warm water and will add to the romance. We don’t recommend taking alcohol into the hot tub, but you can enjoy a steaming mug of hot chocolate, or a glass of sparkling juice or ice water to stay hydrated.

Keep a Chilled Bottle for Later

Put a bottle of your favorite bubbly on ice. Place two long-stemmed glasses next to it. After you’ve toweled off and donned your fluffy robes, pop the cork and pour yourselves each a glass and pick out the constellations.

This Valentine’s Day, take a moment to relax and plan a truly romantic retreat for you and your loved one. With these simple ideas and your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub, you can have a wonderful night without having to leave the comfort of your home.

How to Throw a Hot Tub Party for the Big Game

The Big Game is coming up, and that means parties are in the works. There’s no better way to celebrate football’s biggest day than with an afternoon split between cheering on touchdowns and relaxing in the comfort of your hot tub. Here, we’ve collected some ideas on how to incorporate your hot tub into the party:

Play Games

A football-themed game embraces the mood of the day and gives your guests a way to pass the time during commercials. Here are a few of our favorite games to get the party started:

  • Hot Potato: Arrange your guests in a rough circle in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. Toss a mini football in a clockwise direction while music plays. When the music stops, the person holding the hot potato at the time is eliminated and must leave the hot tub. The last person in the hot tub wins.
  • Fiki Football: Set up the Fiki Football goalpost on one end of the hot tub. Guests use their fingers to flick the triangle-shaped football across the hot tub and attempt to “score” over the goalposts. Allow each guest three passes; whoever wins gets a prize, such as a plush football or a drink.
  • Pass the Cup: Everyone gets an assortment of casino chips. The person holding the cup picks a play associated with the football game–for example, a touchdown or an offside call. The cup is passed around, and everyone adds a chip. When a touchdown or offside call occurs in the live game, the person holding the cup at the time is victorious. Once the party has moved indoors or is winding down, the winners receive money (for example, quarters) in equal amount to the number of casino chips in the cup when they were holding it.

Looking for more fun to keep the party going? Here are three other games you can play in your hot tub.

Bring It Outside

Sometimes watching is the only entertainment you need. Enjoy the game and its commercials from the comfort of your hot tub. Even if you don’t have a television mounted outside, you can still bring one outdoors for this special occasion, or open the windows and doors of your house so you can hear the broadcast. Depending on your cable provider, you may also be able to stream the broadcast on a portable device like a tablet or smartphone propped up outside.

Be a Good Host

Provide finger foods in individual servings so everyone is kept happy and fed without worrying about getting in and out of the hot tub and missing parts of the game. We suggest veggie sticks or chips in cups of dip, or fruit bowls in plastic containers. Before the party, craft some beverages and pour them into mason jars with lids so your guests can stay hydrated. Finally, stock up on guest towels in the colors of the teams playing in the Big Game. Keep them in a towel warmer to ensure your guests will be able to step from your hot tub into a warm, comfortable towel in no time.

The Big Game is an excellent time of year to host a party. Make the most of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub and the natural excitement this event brings, and may your favorite team win.

Fun Conversation Games for Your Hot Tub

Your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is the ideal place to host a gathering of family and friends. Because of its intimate and relaxing space, it’s also perfect for striking up fun conversations. Here are games for your hot tub that don’t require any props or supplies:

Questions

To play Questions, all information exchanged must be in the form of a question. For example, Player 1 will say, “Have you seen the new movie?”; Player 2 may respond with, “Is that the movie with the superhero?”; and Player 3 can ask, “What is the superhero’s name?” Only questions may be asked; no definitive statements may be made as the conversation evolves. If a player takes too long to answer a question or asks a rhetorical question, another player can call a foul and is awarded a point. Once a player reaches a set number of points (the number varies and can be predetermined by your team), he or she is declared the winner.

Fact or Fiction

In this game, each player states two things about themselves. One statement is true, and the other is false. For example, Player 1 will say, “I like green beans and I shower twice a day.” Player 2, 3, and 4 must decide which statement is false. There are no real winners or losers, and this game can be great for getting to know your friends and family better.

I’m Going on a Trip…

This is a slightly more complicated game to play, and can provide an amusing window into the mental processes of your friends. During each round, a player announces he’s going on a trip and bringing a specific item (or person) with him. Add a twist to the game by requiring that each follow-up “I’m bringing” follows a secret rule you’ve made, such as requiring that the item begins with the first or last letter of the item the previous player declared. As an example of using the last letter, Player 1 says, “I’m going on a trip, and I’m bringing a papaya.” Player 2 says, “I’m going on a trip, and I’m bringing an aardvark.” Player 3 says, “I’m going on a trip, and I’m bringing a kettle.” And so on and so forth. You can add further variation to this game by adding color or size requirements to the items, but the trick is to see how long it takes other players to catch on to your formula.

Want some other ideas for entertainment? Here are three other fun games you can play in your hot tub.

Your hot tub is a natural place to congregate during a party, and these games can help keep conversation flowing during your gatherings. Remember to limit yourself to about 20 minutes for each session in the hot tub, regardless of how much fun you’re having, and keep plenty of water or other beverages on hand to stay hydrated.

The Best Drinks to Bring to Your New Year’s Eve Hot Tub Party

If you’re hosting a New Year’s party, one thing you’ll want to keep in mind is what type of drinks to serve. We’ve selected an assortment of delicious beverages for you to choose from and modify to your taste. If you’ve been looking for some unique ideas, here are some of the best drinks to bring to your New Year’s Eve party:

Lovely Lime

Variations on these crisp drinks will usher in a fresh new year. Mix chopped limes or mint leaves with sparkling water or ginger ale; add sugar or other sweeteners if you like. Place a straw in the glass and toast to the New Year as the countdown begins.

Rudolph’s Nose

There’s no better way to ring in a chilly new year than with a sweet, fruity drink. This mixture of red raspberries, fresh orange juice, and ginger ale poured over ice is bound to be a crowd-pleaser. Tasty and refreshing, it’s the perfect drink to sip while you enjoy the last few hours of the year in your hot tub.

Light Moscow Mule

For a pleasant, nonalcoholic beverage you can take into the hot tub with you, consider a Light Moscow Mule. Mix ginger beer, fresh lime juice, and club soda together, and serve the drink in a heavy copper cup with a wedge of lime. If you’re ready to move the party out of the hot tub, substitute vodka for club soda.

Sparkling Juice or Sangria

A glass full of colorful, sparkling juice or sangria are festive and easy choices to toast to the turning of the year. Add some chopped fruit as a vivid accent and celebrate with your friends and family as you watch the ball drop.

Give your New Year’s party a special twist with these unique drinks, and remember to keep a pitcher of fresh water close to your hot tub so you can cleanse your palate and keep hydrated during your festivities.

Creative Ideas for Your Winter Hot Tub Party

Winter has arrived, which means long, cold nights. Why not welcome the season—and combat the chill—with a gathering of family and friends? Make your backyard a winter sanctuary by offering food, drink, and of course a soak in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub. Here are some creative ideas for your winter hot tub party:

Install Lights

In winter, your trees are often bare. This may look bleak during the daytime, but bare branches are far easier to adorn with lights. Hang strings of lights from the branches, running them through separate trees or connecting trees to one another. When the sun goes down, you’ll have a magnificent winter light show.

 Provide Warmth

Keep your guests warm and cozy by providing a basket full of blankets and towels. If you have a towel heater, place the blankets there to warm them up before handing them out. When your party makes its way to the hot tub, keep the towels on the heater or at least in a protected place to ensure you can all wrap up with something comfortable and dry when you step out of the water.

Offer Toasty Drinks

Combat the cold air of a winter evening with a bar full of warm drinks. Keep hot chocolate, tea, and coffee standing by, as well as some stouter beverages. Offer your guests a Spanish hot coffee—made with coffee and Spanish bourbon—or a hot buttered rum.

Make S’mores

You can’t go wrong with s’mores to warm up a winter night. Light the fire pit, cover an outdoor table with a festive cloth, and then set out the ingredients for these cold-weather treats. Remember to use the old standbys of graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows, but you can offer your guests more creative options as well. Provide caramel, more elaborate types of chocolate like dark or white, and fruits like strawberries and bananas. For a salty and sweet combination, offer your guests bacon bits to sprinkle on their s’mores.

There’s a great deal you can do to celebrate the winter season with your friends and family. For a special touch, consider sending out invitations to properly invite your guests to your party. Kori Clark has created the perfect invitation for every Jacuzzi® Hot Tub-themed celebration, making it easy for you to add another touch of creativity and style to your winter celebration.
